Family Session

While I was in St. George Utah I got to do a family session for someone I know from church. She is also a photographer and had taken our family pictures the week before. It was nice to trade services and not pay! WOO HOO haha Also I just love taking pictures and haven't had many chances since moving to do so. We took these at the tabernacle. The colors in the trees were beautiful.

St. George Temple

I had the pleasure of being in St. George Utah during the week of Thanksgiving. It was GORGEOUS there! The leaves on the trees were gorgeous colors and the leaves falling were breath taking. After we all ate dinner on Thanksgiving day, I snuck out for a half an hour to go to the temple and take pictures. My parents live 2 blocks from it. I thought there would be no one there but apparently everyone thought it would be a good idea to walk off thanksgiving dinner on the temple grounds. So I had a hard time getting some of the pictures I wanted but I did get some good ones. Take a look.

Halloween Photo Shoot Part 2

I have know Jason since I was probably about 6 or so. Maybe I knew him even before that, I'm not really sure. Him and his wife came down so we could do picture's of their kids. The baby wasn't feeling well and I was already taking someone's picture when they got there so they had to wait. By the time I tried taking theirs the baby wasn't having it. Big brother on the other hand let me take TONS of him. It was great taking pictures of him because he seemed to love it and he would actually stay pretty still while I took them. BONUS

I love how intense you looks showing me his muscles! haha

Halloween Photo Shoot Take ONE

I have a friend named Lisa. She is wonderful. The funny thing is, she is actually my friend Jason's wife. I would have never even met her otherwise. She is one of those people who is really generous and goes out of her way to help perfect strangers. I have done pictures for them before. Her husband is in Iraq right now and she wanted to get pictures of her kids in Halloween costumes. She saw a picture of a baby inside of a pumpkin and sent me the link to look at the picture and said, "Can we do this please, please, please?"

Then she put an announcement on facebook asking any of her friends if they wanted some halloween pictures of their kids. Not only that but she then bought all sorts of decorations and set everything up. It was awesome. So I got a little bit of business and she got her pictures. She worked 10 times harder then I did!

Any ways, here are some pictures of her adorable kids! They both have the prettiest eyes!

Lisa actually took this picture. My daughter had to go potty and we were losing light so I told her to grab my camera and take some herself! Check out his gorgeous eyes.

And lastly, the ones Lisa wanted. When we first put the baby in the pumpkin she balled! LIKE HUGE tears. Then her momma started singing and all the kids started making silly faces and dancing and we got a couple of little smirks from her.

I Heart Texas

I miss Texas. I really do. I miss the trees and the wild flowers. I miss the food. I miss my in laws. I miss my friends. I miss getting to call someone up and say, "let's do lunch today." I don't have that here yet. So sometimes I like to cheer myself up and make something with my Texas cookie cutter. It makes things fun and if you have EVER lived in Texas you know how much people LOVE seeing things in the shape of Texas. I have seen cheese shaped like Texas, chips shaped like Texas, stepping stones shaped like Texas, pretzel's shaped like Texas....I could go on. So why not have something fun in your breakfast shaped like Texas! Perhaps some yummy pink yogurt in the shape of Texas in your oatmeal...

MMMMMMMMM That's what I call a good start to the day!

My Favorite Color

My favorite color is black. Black is not easy to photograph. I should know because I am constantly trying to get good pictures of black flowers and it is super hard to do. I was sitting eating my lunch thinking about how I was going to photograph BLACK and I looked down at my food and thought, "DUH!" I was eating nachos I had made with black beans and black olives. Hmmmmm. I decided that was a good way to photograph black

And yes these nachos were as yummy as they look!

Today is a childhood memory. I have some ideas....

Reflectors

I have a shop that I found from my dear friend Katrina, and they sell photography lights, back drops and other things and are very reasonably priced. I have bought some studio lights from them and some backdrops. I plan on buying some more lights from them soon when I have a little more money in my pay pal account. :) The store is called Cowboy Studio they also sell reflectors and some day I plan on purchasing some. For now I don't have the cash. SOOOOOOOO why not make your own? Last year I made one and have hardly used it because I miss placed it when I moved. Now I dug it back out and have been using it a little bit. Check out how easy this is to do.

Everyone has seen the foam boards right? I get mine at the Dollar Tree because, well...they are only a dollar. haha I use these when photographing things for my craft blog or when taking pictures of products for my etsy site ( not my photography one because I have two ). I place items on the foam board and behind them for a white blank canvas. It works great. Did you know you can also use them to make your own reflector?

Take the foam board and a box cutter and slice it done the center BUT don't cut alllll the way through both sides.

See how you can now fold the foam board in half but it is still attached as one piece?

Next you want to take foil and wrap it around the foam board on one side. my foil wasn't wide enough to cover the whole thing so I had to do two strips of foil. Tape around the sides on the back

And that is pretty much it! Now you have a cool/ghetto reflector for WAY cheap and it folds to help bounce the light off. I used this when doing senior pictures for Faith and Lura. It was overcast and in on of the shots I was doing of Faith I had the "sun" behind her and she has brown eyes. We used the reflector and it shown TONS on light in her eyes and on her face. Can you tell?

I also used this reflector the other day when I was doing my self portrait. Just remember that it depends on what kind of lighting you want on your subject. Sometimes shadows on the face are good and sometimes they are not. Just be aware of the look you are going for and make it happen! Now go make a ghetto but cool 2 dollar reflector and go take some pictures!

What I Wore

Seems to me that most people who do the whole, what I wore today thing take a picture of themselves in a mirror, hold the camera up in front of them and take a picture OR use a tripod and just stand there. Not my style for this one. You can't see my WHOLE outfit but that's okay. I like this much better any ways!

Aren't my shoes adorable?! I love them. I am usually not a BOW girl but I saw these, tried them on and fell in love. Cute and comfy is for SURE my style.

Today's photo challenge is my favorite color. That is black. Hmmmmm How can I get creative with that?

Clouds

Of course it was overcast and a little rainy yesterday. We had a few patches of clouds in the sky but mostly it was grey. I took the kids to the market after we picked Tyler up from school and while we were driving away Tyler said, "Look mommy, a rainbow!" I looked all around and sure enough there was one. I should have stopped the car and gotten out and take a picture but I didn't. I kept driving thinking the rainbow from my house would be a good angle to take a picture. I was wrong. I got home and houses were covering it. BOOOOO

So instead of a rainbow in front of some clouds I got this shot.

Some I Love

Day Two is a picture of someone I love. I had all day to take pictures of someone I love. We didn't have church today and so we were home all day long just hanging out. I took about 100 pictures and more then half of them were fuzzy. It is frustrating sometimes to get blurry pictures. I was going through them on my computer and it kinda made my laugh. My house was kinda dark yesterday and the kids were moving like crazy! This is why everything was so blurry. When considering that I almost picked a super blurry picture of Kayla jumping but decided on this one

I couldn't resist! Kayla started potty training this weekend! We have tried a couple of times with pull ups and she would just pee in them but she would poop on the potty. So we bought her underwear and I knew this is what was going to help her. We threw them on her Saturday and the first 2 times she just went. The rest of the day she pretty much went on the potty! It was so wonderful. So here she is at the table while we were playing the Toy Story 3 memory game. Sitting on her feet with her little blues clues underwear. So adorable and I for SURE love this little girl. :)

Today's challenge is CLOUDS! I can't wait. I love taking pictures of clouds. Hopefully we have some good ones in the sky today.

30 Day Challenge

Okay so I STILL didn't write my own challenge list. BUT today is day one. One of the list I found I loved because it started with a self portrait and it ended with a self portrait. I thought that was a fantastic idea! SOOOO Today was day one and I had to do a self portrait. To be honest with y'all, if I know I am going to have my picture taken I make sure I wear a cute outfit, do my hair nice and make sure I wear make-up. I usually wear some jewelry too. I decided for my self portrait I would ignore all of these instincts and go NATURAL! I know scary right? But this is how I look in almost everyday of my life. I wear make up to church and other then that I usually don't find the time to do it any more. Sad, I know. And I wonder why Cody is always all over my on Sundays! haha

I am not THRILLED with how this picture turned out but I will take it. No make up. Hair had just been washed with Baking Soda and "conditioned" with Apple Cider Vinegar. Nothing fancy!

Considering it is SOOOOOOO that time of the month and I am PMSing today, I am SO happy my face isn't broken out!!!

For day two tomorrow I am doing a picture of Someone I love! I can't wait...

New Challenge

I have been feeling so inspired lately to take pictures. However, I am NOT taking pictures. I have decided to take a challenge on. For 30 days I am taking one photo everyday from a theme. The first day is going to be a self portrait. I guess that means I will have to shower tomorrow! haha I figured I'd start it tomorrow since it was October 1st. I am excited. I was going to publish my list for y'all to read tonight BUT I found two different list and I want to pick and choose the best 30 of both list. My husband is calling me to bed so I'll post my first picture tomorrow along with the 30 day challenge! If you feel uninspired lately OR if you just want something to help you get into the habit of taking pictures regularly ( or to do cool things with simple suggestions ) do it with me!

Found Them

Spiders

I took this picture a long time ago and always loved it. I just found it on one of my old hard drives.

Isn't that like one of the coolest spider webs ever!?! I have some other spider web pictures that I took that I LOVE!! I have been wanting to add them on here and guess what? One of my hard drives crashed! I am devastated! I probably had 10,000 plus pictures on it. The hard drive was the back up to my lap top that crashed last month! DOH! So in other words if we don't figure out how to get the hard drive to work I am screwed and oh so sad. I hope to be able to recover the other spider pictures because they were pretty cool!

I love the sky! I think one of the reasons I love it so much is because almost every Sunday growing up I would hear my mom say, "Look at how pretty the sky looks!" We used to make fun of her all the time for it and now I hear myself telling Cody constantly, "Look how pretty the sky is!" I guess it's true what they say, WE ALL TURN INTO OUR MOTHER'S!

Me and My Daughter

I sew. I LOVE to sew. It is a stress relief with me. I also LOVE taking pictures. Usually one wins over the other and on Friday I tried to balance things out. I made my daughter a new hat so I really wanted to get good pictures of it on her head. She had other plans.

She was not having it BUT I did get one picture I was really happy with ( and it doesn't even have the hat in it. )

I love all the dirt on her feet! :) that's my girl

Alton Farm part 3

Re-Do

So I am HOPEFULLY going to be doing some blog revamps here! Since I don't have a photography web site but I want business, I am going to be getting this blog up and going so that it is set up better for a business. My problem is that I am NOT good with computers. I was going to try and figure out how to do the menu at the top so I could list my prices and things and after just READING how to do it I said forgot it! It is most likely worth the money to pay someone to do. Now I just have to find someone who will do it for me! Any takers? No? None? Didn't think so! haha

In the mean time I am trying ot fix the few things I know how to do. The first is adding labels to ALLL of my post. No clue if every time I hit "post" if blogger adds this to my fed or not. If so I AM SO SORRY! I have a BUNCH of blog lables to update so just ignore this for a few days if it is showing up. Hopefully in two or three weeks I will have a much better looking and better working blog! YIPEE

Since this IS a photography blog and I just got new "business cards" ( they are actually post cards and I love them!) Here is a picture of what they look like.

Best Words Ever

I think one of the best compliments for a photographer is when you hear the words, "Would you mind taking these pictures for me?" This happened to me while on vacation.

My Father in law grew up in a SMALL town in Utah called Alton. They still have a farm there that his parents left him and his sister Glenna. They have TONS of land and someday we will own a couple of acres. We want to build a cabin on ours if we can. It's beautiful there. It has harsh winters I am told. My husband said he remembers seeing a picture or being told that one winter that the snow reach the top of the house. Needless to say we will probably only stay there in the summer. The summer weather is so nice. We have gone there the last 2 July's in a row. Last year we had a big family reunion. It was so fun. This year was a little smaller for us. We missed everyone by a day. When we first got there I was walking around the house and taking pictures. Glenna saw me and I told her I was just taking pictures. She seemed a little weirded out by it. I don't want to make people uncomfortable or anything so I took a little but didn't take as many as I wanted. They have tons of stuff in the house from their parents. ANY WAYS.

The next day we were driving to go back up to Alton and I said something to Cody about how I thought Aunt Glenna thought I was kinda crazy walking around the house taking pictures. We laughed about it. When we got to the house I had to use the restroom so I went inside and as soon as I walked in the door Glenna told me she had found a bunch of treasures of her parents and grand parents and was wondering if I would take pictures for her. I was THRILLED! So here are some pictures I got while walking around finding cool things in the house.

Well I am off to bed. I thought these pictures were all edited all ready so I was just going to add them but they are not. Go figure. Tomorrow I hope to add the pictures Glenna had me take. There are some cool things she has!

Double Bonus

Yesterday I got to take pictures. I'm not sure if y'all know this but I LOVE taking pictures. I especially love taking pictures when it is of super cute kids with gorgeous blue eyes! So yesterday was a good day. It was a double bonus for me because I got to chat with their mom who is so nice and so much fun! The kids were cute and even though mine were fussy and Kayla kept crying, we got great pictures and had fun.

Aren't they just so super cute? Jaxson was so cute that before I even really knew them I made him a bow tie just because I could envision him in one! haha

This next picture is hilarious! She was smiling funny so we told her she was NOT allowed to smile. Usually that makes Tyler laugh and I get a "good" smile. She frowned! haha

My Kids

My kids are SO hard to get pictures of! I bet I mommy constantly having a camera in her hand and trying to get them to smile and cooperate is probably a HUGE part of it. But whatever....

So when I had my back drops up at my mom's house and was already doing pictures it was MUCH easier to get them to cooperate. IN fact Tyler wanted me to take a MILLION pictures of him except he wanted to pose himself in all of these ridiculous stances. Some, were hilarious! Check this little poser out

While doing pictures for my sister, we had lots of action! I took pictures of several people in between changing Jacob's clothes or during crying spells. :) My brother in law Ender has a niece named Molly who was spending time with them that week. She is a cutie pie. We had her sit down and do some pictures too. I only took about 6 pictures of her and she wasn't even TRYING to be cute. IN fact, she was talking to Ender the whole time and I STILL got some good pictures of her. She is just that photogenic. Check her out!

Family Time

My sister and her husband and baby are moving to Mexico. It's bittersweet for everyone. It's only 2 years and it is so her husband can get his degree done. They are excited so we are excited for them. But we are sad we will not be seeing them for a while. That's always sad. While we were in Utah this last week my sister asked me to bring my new backdrops and take pictures for them. I am SO glad she did. Look at how cute her little family is!

Jacob was EXHAUSTED! So he was either laughing or crying. We got a couple of crying pictures during the sad times. haha

More crying!

Overall I think they turned out cute and I for sure learned a few things for the next time. :)

A Little Behind

I really have been taking lots of pictures I just haven't had TIME to post them. Also, a lot of times I take pictures, put them on my lap top but don't shrink them which I NEED to do in order to post them. SOOOOO For you today I have a few pictures from a photo shoot ( YUP! I FINALLY had a real photo shoot a couple of weeks ago ).

I was worried about these pictures when I first put them on my computer. They were grainy and I was NOT happy. Their house was really dark and I tried to get the pictures as light as I could without the graininess. When I put them on my computer I was surprised at how grainy they seemed. I was able to edit them in a way that you either couldn't tell or could tell very little. I have come to the conclusion that if you are not a "photographer" you usually don't notice so thats good for the client. They liked the pictures and that is all I wanted!

Utah

We went to Utah the first weekend of April and it snowed on us in Cedar City! It was fun to see snow even if it was just for a couple of hours. I love how snow looks on plants

This next picture I took while driving ( um...I mean my husband was driving NOT me! ) I was also taking it through the window ( I get yelled at if I roll it down to take pictures ) and we were going at least 65 MPH . I think it cam out pretty darn good under the circumstances. haha One of these days I would love to drive through the Gorge without kids and maybe stop a couple of places and take some pictures.

The bushes in the corners are blurry but that's okay. I like this picture any ways. It's just so pretty and peaceful there! More pictures to come...I have just been to busy to shrink them yet.

Practice

I am HOPEFULLY doing a photo shoot tomorrow for some friends. I wanted to practice a little since I haven't had opportunities for photo shoots since we moved. Today I tried taking pictures of the kids by the window light. Kayla is a hard one because she doesn't stop moving. Here are some of my favorites.

You can see I need the practice because in some of Kayla's pictures her eyes aren't totally in focus. practice makes perfect though right?! Hopefully...someday. haha

Emotions

I love when you catch a pout or a strong emotion on camera. Those are the best! I read the theme for Trendy Treehouse this week and saw that it was emotions and had a couple of pictures in mind. I finally decided ( with the help of my friend ) which one was the funniest. Here is my adorable niece Bradlie. She hurt herself on a trampoline while we were out on it having a fun time. She had HUGE crocodile tears.

What I love most about this picture is the cute little piggy tails AND that her mom is laughing hysterically at her. We ALL were. It was pretty funny and the best part was that about 2 minutes later she was laughing and jumping on the trampoline again! Heehee

SUN FLARE

Sun flare in pictures are my FAVORITE! Seriously, I try really hard to get sun flare in all of my out side pictures. This weeks theme for Iheartfaces is SUN FLARE! I HAD to enter a picture but when I have SO many with sun flare, which do I choose? I had some serious decisions to make. I finally decided upon one and I am happy with my choice.

Anything Else

I heartfaces is dedicated to doing pictures with people's faces in it. Every once in a while the theme is something other then faces. This week is one of those times! YEAH! I almost forgot. It's really hard to pick a picture each week but I finally decided to use this one.

For those who don't regularly look at my page, my sister and her husband have not been able to get pregnant. About 10 months or so ago they were told they get to be parents. Someone had picked them to be parents. The mom to be was very nice and wanted to be a part of everything including the baby shower we threw for my sister. After the shower was over, I had the privilege of taking pictures of the three of them together. This was everyone's favorite from the photo shoot. I love everything about it and this picture is in a frame in Jacob's bedroom. What a blessed boy he is.

We tried really hard to get a great smile picture out of him when he was here visiting. The problem is that Kayla REALLY wanted to be on the bed to help, it was dark in my bed room and Jacob spits up A LOT! Between those three things we got a couple of good one but we didn't get the huge smile his mommy was hoping for. I think we got some good ones though. He is such a sweet baby!

I have neglected this blog a lot lately. I have good reasons. Mainly because since I moved, I no longer have people requesting to have their photo taken. Nevertheless, my kids have had theirs taken plenty. I haven't posted many of those but maybe one of these days I'll get around to it. I haven't been entering the iheartfaces or the trendytreehouse contest either. Sometimes I check the theme and then just forget. Other times I just forget all together. This week over at IHEARTFACES they have a theme I wanted to join in on. It's cell phones! I started going through all of my cell phone pictures and I actually have quite a few good ones. I had one in mine I was going to use but as I went through I decided to go with something else. Not because I think this one will win or even get placed ( it won't ) but just because I loved the moment.

Makes me laugh every time! I miss when my daughter used to make this face all the time. I am glad I got a picture of it. There are several things she did that I kept saying, "I have to get that on video" and never did. Bummer. Enjoy all of the other cell phone pictures over at iheartfaces. Have A Little Faith

This is Faith

She is so fun! She has these gorgeous BIG brown eyes, but when she smiles they disappear. So we had to work hard to get here to keep her eyes open! I kept telling her, "OPEN YOUR EYES!" and then she would open them as big as she could and then they would start to water. haha BUT she was a very natural model. Very good at it. Here are some of my favorites ( I love how much her and Lura look a like, but then don't at the same time! )

Here is where we started using the reflector. The light was great behind her, but her eyes were really dark. So I got out my nifty homemade reflector and it TOTALLY worked and brought the light into her eyes! You can see in the next 6 pictures of so...

Crossing my fingers

I am crossing my fingers that this works. I am on my MAC and going to try and upload some pictures from my senior pictures shoot. This is Lura who does pretty much everything. She's one tough cookie. Apparently she broke some ribs the other day. I don't know the details, I just read it on facebook. heehee But here you go.

This was the very first photo I took. You know the photo shoot is gonna go well when the very first picture turns out like this! I love how the sun is coming through her hair and everything.

I think this one is my favorite of her smiling. I called out her boyfriends name ( it worked several times! haha Except for the time I accidently called him Gay instead of his name....that pictures was hilarious! )

This is her moms dress from when she was a teenager and I just think that is SO cool!

I know it is a LOT of picture. Think about how LONG it took me to edit and shrink and reformat ALL of these ( and I only put SOME of them on here! There are several of the EXACT same picture but smiling or not smiling but I didn't want to bore you with both! )

And lastly my FAVORITE of her from the day was when she was looking and wasn't ready for her picture to be taken.

Never stop SHOOTING! Because then you won't get stuff like this!!! And now I need to shower so I can get my boy up. So later on I will for sure post the pictures of her sister Faith! We would have fun taking pictures was Lura changed her clothes in my back seat. heehee Oh and I made myself a sun reflector out of foam board and foil! It worked like a charm and the pictures I got of Faith with it are pretty nice. :)

Has it seriously been that long since I posted anything here? Gosh...I apologize but I have several excuses. We moved to another state RIGHT after Christmas which made it extra hard. Now we are in our new house but don't have a couch or a kitchen table which means NO WHERE to sit. Kinds hard to blog when you have to stand and type ( and annoying. ) My knees hurt today from all the internet surfing and craft making I did yesterday. I am using the internet off of my phone. Boooooooooooo I took awesome pictures a week or so before we moved of my friend Lura and her sister Faith. There were so many good ones that I had a hard time picking which ones to give her. I ended up giving them a CD with over 250 pictures on it. Haha I would LOVE to post some but they are on my MAC and I am on my PC which can connect to my phone. My MAC will connect too however, I am not smart enough to figure it out. Maybe when the hubby gets home today I will beg him to do it for me. It would be nice to get some on here for y'all to enjoy. I loved shooting sisters because it always reminds me of mine. This family has 3 girls all within 5 years of each other and they are really close, just like my family. :) It was also fun because of their different personalities and taste in clothes. Kinda reminded me of me! haha The youngest one, Faith has the punky personality and Lura had the more modern edge going on with her natural beauty. It's fun to look at their pictures because they look so much a like, yet totally different at the same time.

Well, I better get my other computer hooked to the internet now because I am dying to show their pictures off. It is gonna be hard the first couple of months here in Cali I think. Mostly because photography is probably not gonna be popping up as often as it was the last couple of months for me in Texas. I hope to build up some clients here and resume my passion. And just so you aren't left totally void of pictures on a photography blog

My husband is in bed early tonight and I had a chance to edit some older pictures. SOOO since I haven't been posting much on here I thought I would update some landscaping photos. Hopefully it is something everyone can enjoy.

These are from our trip back in August to Corpus Christi. We had such a great time and it was beautiful there. And the next couple are taken from the car on the way home from Utah.

I have had lots of baby shoots lately. I was supposed to have another but it got canceled. Bummer. Here are some of my friends baby. She was a difficult one so we didn't get many. After about 2 hours of trying really hard to get pictures and having to breast feed a lot, Lisa, her mom said we should get out the blow dryer and have it going. It worked like a charm. Apparently we were too quiet for her. She wanted some noise.

We are gonna miss these guys since we are moving but come March, they are headed back to California themselves and we can have play dates again. WOO HOO

My family has not been ALL together in three years. My mom wanted to take family pictures since we were all gonna be at the same place for Thanksgiving. The grandkids however, didn't want to! Ain't that the way it goes with kids sometimes. They were tired and cold and the sun was bright. Here is the pictures I got of ALL the grandkids

I LOVE black and white photography. Like REALLY love it! Once upon a time I was planning on putting only black and white photos in my bedroom. This weeks theme over at Iheartfaces is black and white scenic. My problem with this theme wasn't the black and white but having a human face in it. I was going through my pictures and found this one that I think applies well.

There are so many things I love about this picture but mostly I love remembering doing the shoot. It was so much fun and this couple was oh so cute. I know Lettice and it was fun getting to know the man who fell in love with her.

I really have not posted much lately. Not because I don't have pictures or because I don't want to, but simply because I either don't have time or don't have the internet. Also, several times I tried to post and blogger wasn't letting me post pictures. How annoying! But today I am posting! YEAH! check out my CUTE new nephew

WEDDING TIME

So my sister Kim is SUPER skinny. She always has been and she can eat whatever she wants and she stays skinny. Yeah I hate her too, but I have boobs so it's all good. heehee Her and I were talking about photography and I said something about her and I doing bridal pictures of her sometime for me to add to my portfolio since I knew she would still fit in her dress. I told her it is a shame guys don't usually OWN a tux and we could only do bridal portraits. Then she reminded me that Ender wanted something cool to wear and he actually bought a long jacket for his wedding. SCORE! Also, Kim and Ender like having their pictures taken so it's all good. Thursday my other sister Kristy came over and watched the kids so Kim, Ender and I could go down to the LDS Mormon Temple and do mock wedding photos. After all, it is only two blocks from Kim and Ender's place. It was good times and we got some good pictures. FYI for anyone who does weddings on a regular basis for Mormon people, it is FREAKING HARD! Oh my gosh I could NOT get my settings right on my camera for the HUGE WHITE building with a girl in a LONG WHITE dress and then a guy in black. Either the Temple would be washed out and the would look good, or the Temple would look awesome and they were dark. I guess this is when reflectors and things like that come in handy but I have a camera, a macro lens and a tripod...no reflectors here. Maybe someday...

I have a lot of pretty vertical ones but BLOGGER WON"T LET ME ADD THEM WITHOUT TURNING THEM THE WRONG WAY! Why am I the ONLY one who seems to have this problem. Please, please, PLEASE someone tell mw hoe to fix this because it is driving me CRAZY!!!!

We Did It

I got to take the maternity pictures for my sister (who is adopting) and the birth mom. The birth mom is very sweet and has an awesome family. Her mom, grandparents and a couple of her cousins came to the baby shower. How awesome is that?! Here are my favorite pictures from our photo shoot.

The last picture is my favorite, even though there are not any faces in it. They want to frame one of these pictures in and put it in the babies room. Won't that be so special for the baby to have some day!?

I haven't been on much because I have been keeping really busy here in Utah but I happen to catch this weeks photo challenge at IHEARTFACES and wanted to join in the fun with some pictures I just took. The theme this week is Orchard

This is a picture of my son Tyler and his Grandpa Roundy. If you notice they are pointing to the tree and it says Tyler on it. Grandpa Roundy carved Tyler's name in it JUST above where Grandma Roundy's dad carved his name in the tree in 1942! You can't see the whole thing but it says, Clemont Adams November 21 1942. Now both of their names will be there as long as that tree is. Pretty neat when you think about it.

Doing photo shoots for friends is always so much fun! For some reason the stress isn't as bad as doing them for people who are paying ( for obvious reasons ). This particular photo shoot was stress free because I know Lisa is NOT picky at all and would have fun with it. Lisa is actually my friend through marriage. I was good friends with her husband Jason. He has a slight part in my husband and I getting together. Which is a funny story that is only funny to Jason and I so I will spare you. So here are some of my favorites from the evening. I have this love hate relationship with the sun. I LOVE sun flare but yesterday the sun flare was NOT my friend. I wish I had noticed more how bad it was so I could have adjusted accordingly. But in some of these pictures, it makes the picture for me. Go figure.

My favorite one is where Linc is trying to pull Jason away from kissing Lisa! :)
Lisa brought Lincoln's halloween costume and we took some picture of him in it! Such a cutie. He REALLY wants Tyler to be Woody again so they can be the Toy Story people. :) How cute would Kayla be in a Jessie costume?

So I am "self taught" in photography. I have never taken any classes. I think for me I have an eye for what makes a good photo but as far as working my camera goes, it's like a foreign language. I have read articles, studied my manual and it still just doesn't make sense. Usually I just leave my camera on AUTO and occasionally I will adjust things manually, but not often. I got a DVD that was pretty good at explaining things and I have started to TRY to work my camera myself instead of doing everything in AUTO. I know photographers who would be so annoyed when reading I shoot in AUTO but I don't think a good photographer HAS to be someone who can work the camera great! In fact, it kind of makes me upset when people take crappy pictures but know how to photo shop the crap out of them to make them look good. I know photo shop is an art so it shouldn't be annoying....but for me I think I am a good photographer because I have a good eye. Well, I have an announcement! Yesterday was my first time shooting ONLY in manual! WOO HOO No auto here for me. It was a great experiment. Did my images turn out better? About 50 percent of them turned out a lot better. The other 50 percent were grainy, blurry or too dark. Dang! But I am learning and that is the important thing. I was having some serious issues with the sun as I mentioned earlier but I think overall, I did a good job with it being my first time and I have been getting better and better everyday. Utah here I come baby! Watch out!!! :)

Pregnancy photography

SO my sister and her husband have been married for almost 7 years and have not been able to get pregnant. That got some great news recently when they found out they got picked by a birth mom to be parents. SO exciting for everyone and I can't imagine how exciting for her and her husband. Since meeting the birth mother they have become friends with her through the process and have decided to do some maternity pictures with each other. I get the pleasure og photographing them! YEAH! However, my sister and I are kind of stumped on ideas. So far we have ONE picture planned and that would be the typical hand forming the heart over the belly but it will be with one of my sisters hands, one of her husbands and obviously it will be over the bith mothers belly. I think it will be very sweet. Other then this idea we got a whole lot of nothing. Any one have any ideas? Just curious. I will be posting this on all three of my blogs so if you read more then one of them you obviously can ignores this on the other ones and only have to comment on one. But seriously ANY ideas would be nice, even if you think it might be dumb, you never know.

The Punk Rock Mom

i just found this blog this morning. It's called The Punk Rock Mom. I have been looking for blogs that are similar to my taste and have different photography challenges or contest. This one has one going right now and the theme is "Story Time" She wants the pictures to tell a story. I LOVE doing this. I often will take 10 pictures in a row of my kids doing something just to get the whole story behind it. That actually makes it more difficult for me to share some because I had SO many of them in my head I knew I could use. So here is what I finally decided to do after searching through some of my folders. It is from a year ago at our church Halloween celebration. Tyler had never done a doughnut eating contest like this and in fact, I am not sure if he had ever had a doughnut! haha BUt he took the challenge and had fun. It was funny because half way through it he looked at his cousin right next to him and with chocolate ALL over his face, pointed, laughed and said, "Madison you have chocolate on your face!" Classic

We finally called it a draw and let them use their hands. After this last picture was taken they busted out with the GLAZED doughnuts! Um, where were the NON-chocolate ones when our kids were doing it?! :)

A First

So I did a photo shoot on Friday for a couple who are expecting a baby in November. I hadn't met them yet. We had only talked through emails but I was REALLY excited to do the shoot. My friends at church have this GORGEOUS little farm that I went to for the first time a week before we planned to do pictures. I asked them if I could use their yard to do pictures and she told me no problem. YEAH! I was really really excited. I had lots of first for this shoot. It was my first time taking pictures for someone I had never met, my first time taking pictures at this location and my first time laying on a fire ant hill to get good pictures! haha The couple were funny and when they were getting letters out to spell their future daughters name they couldn't agree on how to spell it. finally the husband looked it up on his phone and then hid his head in shame when he realized his wife was right. haha It was a good thing she was right too because she already had their daughters name embroidered on a diaper bag!

And now for one of my favorites! I ALMOST picked this one as my "blooper" from my previous post. The couple had made a face at each other and I happen to take the picture right then! I bet they didn't know I got it! haha

Bloopers

I LOVE bloopers! They happen ALL the time. Pretty much every time you take pictures you get some out takes. I just did a maternity shoot on Friday and I got quite a few bloopers. One of my favorites was this picture.

It cracks me up every time I see it! I told the couple to stand far apart, hold hands and then I yelled at them, "Okay now lean in and kiss" and the husband instantly leaned in to kiss her and she back up and started laughing. Heehee It reminds me of "While You Were Sleeping" you know the part I mean, "....It looks like he was leaning."

This was a blooper for another reason two. I was laying down on the ground on my stomach and apparently I laid down in a fire ant hill or something because as I started to get up from this my arm started BURNING! It was worth it because the pictures I got of them while laying on the ground there were great!

Temple Photography

I was contacted a month or two ago about donating a Temple picture for a give away. I read about it and thought it was a neat idea. The blog Being LDS is doing a whole month on the Proclamation to the World. If you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints ( other wise known as the Mormons ), you know what this is. If not, click on the link and go check it out. It is centered on Family and what makes us all stronger. All month they are doing great give aways and guest "speakers". This week they are giving away one of my Temple pictures! Below are mine and my families favorites of the Salt Lake Temple that I took back in May. The winner gets to pick which ever one they want! August Photo Hunt Challenges

I love finding things through other people's blogs. Claire's Creations and photography was next to me in the Trendy Treehouse link up last Friday and so I checked out here blog. She had a thing for a scavenger hunt so I clicked on it to check it out. This was on Friday and the hunt was for the month of August. Instead of WAITING until the month was over ( seeing as how there was only like 5 days left in the month! ) I decide to sign up and give it my best effort. SOOOOOO Here is my first attempt and getting 20 photos in 5 days. About 6 or 7 of them are photos I already had taken this month that happen to fit under the category. I realize most of these aren't fantastic pictures, but next month hopefully, I can get better ones. Here it goes

We try and use organic at my house when we can afford it. I love these I got at our local grocery store. They smell great and are eco-friendly in so many ways!

This was actually taken last month but it was a good butterfly shot. This was taken in my front yard. My grass was over grown and therefore was calling all the butterflies in the TEXAS to my yard!

Self Portrait

Sometimes self portraits can be fun! When doing these I always make sure I have make up on and I am wearing flattering clothes and you know, the usual. Well for this particular self portrait I threw caution to the wind and did the opposite. No make up. No cute top. Whatever hair....but Tyler thinks it is hilarious. haha And since he is clearly all that matters, here is my self portrait I took for The Paper Mama photo contest.

It was funny because I had a couple of ideas I THOUGHT would be original and turns out a couple of people have done them! haha I love when I think I am being original and it turns out I was FAR from it!

Laughter

Laughter is the best medicine! Over at Trendy Treehouse laughter is the theme and I had quite a few shots to choose from. I decided on this.

I was telling the girls a story about my ever so funny father! They thought it was pretty funny and I have about 5 or 6 pictures of them just cracking up. It helps to have a funny family to tells stories about while trying to get people to smile. Thanks Dad! :)

The thing about maternity shoots is that ( hopefully ) it leads to a new born shoot. Now these can either go very smoothly OR HORRIBLE! You never know how a new born is goign to respond to being moved and picked up and stripped and wrapped. You just NEVER know. SO do you remember this momma from a month ago?

Well she had her baby and they came over yesterday to do some pictures. Oh my was this little baby SO WELL BEHAVED! he barely made a nose the whole time. Finally when we put a snuggy close to his mouth he tried to feed off of it and we had to end the session so he could eat. Boy was he a cutie pie though. Here are some of his best pictures.

Beach Fun

Okay so I am happy about all the beach themed contest going on because I took so many cute pictures of my girl on her first beach trip two weeks ago. I LOVE SO MANY that it is hard to choose. But one always comes to mind as my favorite.

I just love how you can tell how happy the beach made her! I love her hair blowing in the wind and I love how her arms are behind her. She was SO happy at the beach. I hope there is enough of her face in this picture to count for IHEARTFACES but that is where I am entering this today.

I LOVE the sky and taking pictures of it! My husband laughs at me constantly because I am ALWAYS taking pictures of sunsets and clouds. To him, they all look the same. To me EACH one is different. The sky always reminds me that my Heavenly Father loves me and wants me to have something pretty to look at!

Iheartfaces theme this week is SHADES. I had a lot of pictures going through my head but none of them were actually good pictures. SOOOOO instead I decided to just go with a new one. I just took this one Saturday of my baby girl. We just bought my boy a scooter and so we got him a helmet. She LOVES it and keeps sneaking it on. How did kids ALWAYS manage to put them on the wrong way?! haha Any ways, it is not the best picture ever but it sure is cute!

Vacation

We got back from vacation late Sunday which was JUST in time for this weeks shutter Tuesdays over @Trendy Tree and the theme was VACATION! HA Awesome for me but not so awesome at the same time. I got SO many cute pictures of my girl on the beach plus a lot of fun artsy ones. Hmmmmm so this week I am posting more then one picture which I hate to do but oh well. Enjoy my cutie pie and the beach pictures. It was our first time to a beach here in Texas and my girls first time to the beach ever! She LOVED it!

And now my kids...I start off with my boy because he was just too busy to stop so I can get pictures.

Please pardon the crap in the top right corner of all of my pictures. I have cleaned and cleaned and CLEANED my camera inside and out and can NOT find where it is coming from. I guess I need to take it some where to get cleaned because it is driving me CRAZY!

Shutter Love Tuesdays

It is shutter love tuesday over @ Trendy TreeHouse and this weeks them is Weddings. I have only taken pictures at two weddings so my photos were limited this week. Even so, I STILL had a hard time choosing. I had one picture in mine but then when I looked at some of the other pictures already submitted, I saw the exact picture I was gonna post. Sheesh. that would have been embarrassing! haha SO I changed my mine and went with something nontraditional ( no surprise there since I do that every week it seems like! ) So here is my photo for the day and I hope at least ONE person likes it.

There were butterflies all over the place at this outside wedding. While trying to get a good shot of the bride and groom during the actual ceremony I saw this butterfly on the flower and thought it would be a good picture. I love how it came out! Back in May I took the best pictures of my nephew. I LOVE them because I used natural lighting and they didn't need to be edited at all! They were perfect the way they were. He even smiled big for me in a couple of them. Here are my favorites and the last one is one I am going to print out big for his mom on canvas for Christmas! I love you baby Seth.

Check these out of Kayla. She woke up from her nap and was PISSED! Kayla went and got her up instead of mommy and she was even less happy then. She had been sleeping so good that she had a HUGE red hand print on her face! haha

Over My Head

Iheartfaces has a new theme and a new week. It has been a while since I have entered a picture. This weeks theme is "Over My Head" I wasn't sure what picture to use for this. Then I started looking at all of the other entries and REALLY didn't know what to do. I never like picking a picture that is obvious ( if possible ) and I never like picking a picture everyone else seems to be using. As I was looking through all the other entries one popped into my head. I think it is perfect! Hope you like it
